49ers star Christian McCaffrey hopes to hand off his perk-packed North Carolina chateau for $12.5 million

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is hoping the many luxurious amenities at his North Carolina estate will attract a buyer.

With a panic room, theater room, an elevator, a wine cellar, and lakefront access, the grand mansion in Mooresville, N.C., is listed for $12.5 million.

In the middle of his fourth season with the Carolina Panthers in 2020, the All-Pro snapped up the place for $7.5 million.

But following his 2022 trade out West to the Niners, McCaffrey has decided to put the nearly 12,000-square-foot home back on the market.

It’s listed with Victoria Speer, of The Agency Charlotte. She sold McCaffrey the property four years ago.

“For him, this has been a really difficult decision, because he loved the property a lot,” Speer says. “He really loved the theater room for movie nights. He loves the lake, because he loves to fish.”

Built in 2019, the property features a main house and a 736-square-foot, loft-style guesthouse with a kitchen and walk-in closet. The six-bedroom main house is based on a design by JJ Barja, from Elite Design Group, and is referred to as Grand Lac Chateau.

“You have the Old World, French look but with the modern amenities,” says Speer.

The home is also a standout for the area because it’s on nearly 9 acres, notes Speer, adding that it’s “super private” and has more than 500 feet of lake frontage.

Those one-of-a-kind vibes also show up inside, where the wrought-iron staircase and matching chandelier would “cost more than $1 million alone to recreate,” Speer says.

In the kitchen, you’ll find a La Cornue range and a copper island and a range that she believes would cost $80,000 to reproduce.

Meanwhile, a two-story closet in the primary suite is another unique amenity.

Eight fireplaces—including a double-sided one in the living room—throughout the home keep things cozy on cool nights.

The bar room opens to the outdoors, where a saltwater pool with a spa, a fire pit, and grill area await. A paved pathway and a dock afford lake access.

Other unique features include a state-of-the-art, stone wine cellar; an elevator; a sauna; and that hidden panic room, which is situated behind a former bank vault, outfitted with security cameras.

Since purchasing the home, McCaffrey converted the three-car garage beneath the guesthouse into a gym. The buyer can even purchase his workout equipment—“over a $100,000 worth,” says Speer.

It’s also worth noting that McCaffrey’s side-by-side Wildcat ATV, jet ski, boat, and golf cart are included in the listing price. That boat, by the way, “retails for $300,000 alone,” the agent notes.

Speer is targeting a buyer with luxury taste.

“Charlotte’s a diverse city with a financial center,” she says. “We have a lot of [executives] moving into the city. It could be a NASCAR buyer.”

It might also be someone who likes to entertain and host family, given the guesthouse and three separate garages accommodating seven cars.

The Lake Norman area is desirable as is Mooresville, N.C., a growing town of around 51,500 people.

“It’s difficult to find a property in Mooresville with 8 or more acres,” Speer reports.

While the final sale price is still to be determined, the eventual transaction on this property stands to break a record.

“I broke records for the most expensive home sold in the greater Charlotte metro area when I sold it to him,” says Speer. “If we sell before someone else—there are higher-priced listings—it potentially could break an old record.”

In December, a different lakefront home in Mooresville sold for $7.5 million, tying the record McCaffrey set when he bought his home in 2020.

A version of this story was published on Realtor.com, a real estate and rentals site. In addition to homes for sale, you can find rentals like Scottsdale apartments, Austin apartments, Tampa apartments and more.
